Mmmm mmmm good! The smell of latkes fills the air as the children peeled and grated potatoes and mixed the holiday concoction. The teachers and assistants transformed the “batter” into delicious pancakes and everyone got to taste their creation. Some loved it – some not so much - but everyone had fun. Children counted out eight candles (plus one BIG one) as they made menorahs to display and learned to spin dreidels on “smooth” table tops. To continue the holiday spirit parents and grandparents took time from their busy schedules to participate in making gingerbread houses and gingerbread boys and girls. The ingredients included graham crackers walls, frosting mortar, jelly ring wreaths, marshmallow roofs and many varieties of candy decorations. Some even made it to the project! All the children brought home a Gingerbread House or cookie to display in a special location in their own home, or perhaps, to share it as a treat with family and friends! Even our youngest children in our parent/child group got into the seasonal spirit by building gingerbread houses with blocks, color matching “gingerbread men”, making winter peg scenes and “parading” around the school with jolly bells a-ringing!
Is he here? Where is he? Did he come? The excited voices echoed in the halls as children’s voices rang out in song. Staff and children alike sported their holiday hats and rang sleigh bells in anticipation of a visit from – you guessed it – Santa Clause! Our music teacher, Susan Harris, led a reindeer parade and the children gathered singing seasonal favorites. All the kids received a special gift (beautiful books) donated by the Parents’ Group (many thanks for that!). Santa’s helpers (Debbie, our Educational Coordinator and Maria, our Gym Teacher) bustled about making sure all the children were happy. Pat F., one of our SEIT teachers looked on proudly – I think she has an in with Santa! It was a day filled with excitement and jolly merriment and everyone had a great time. All too soon it was time for Santa to pack up his sleigh and head on out – “Happy Holidays to all" was his final shout!
The faculty and staff of Building Block Developmental Preschool would like to wish you all a very Happy Holiday and healthy New Year.
