Otto the Auto Day

February 21, 2013

“Toot toot, Beep-beep!  Toot-toot, Beep-beep!”  The children squealed and giggled as Otto the Auto and Bob the Puppet made their way into the auditorium.  The almost life-sized remote controlled car beeped its horn and flashed its lights to alert the children of his arrival.  Bob & Otto helped teach the children about passenger safety in cars and pedestrian safety such as walking in school parking lots. The children also learned about booster and car seats and why they need to sit in the back.  All of the children listened intently as Bob the Puppet gave some tips. He’s no dummy, ya’ know! (hehe).

Some Tips for Parents

•NYS law states that all children ages 4-7 must be restrained in a federally approved booster seat when riding in a motor vehicle.

•Seat belts are not designed for children under 4’9”. Booster seats make the seat belt fit right. The shoulder belt should rest on the collarbone and the lap belt should secure the upper legs or hips.

•Booster seats go in the back seat of the car. The seat belt must be properly secured for it to be effective.

•Inform ALL drivers who transport your child that booster-seat or car seat use is a must when your child is in their vehicle.
