Oh what a special day. This year the Spring Games of the Special Olympics were hosted by the Commack School District. The Young Athlete’s Program, the non-competitive events designed for all children ages 2- 7, is what particularly attracted the children, families and staff of Building Blocks. The events began with warm-up exercises led by the girl scouts of Troop 345 (what a great job they did). Then it was off to the races as the youngsters practiced their skill running in lanes. The children enjoyed all the activities including a ball toss, soccer kick, javelin throw, tee ball and bowling. All participants were treated to lunch and all brought home the GOLD as each participant received a gold medal! Everyone had a wonderful time. Some families made a day of it and walked through the Olympic Village or stopped to take in an Olympic event. A special thanks to the Special Olympics for sponsoring this special day!!!
